Documentary providing an insight into various members of East London as victims of circumstance

My name is Cedric Onchuru and with my team - Jordache Nawesi, Ismaeil Shafi, Haitham Salim and Elvin Charles - we are creating a documentary focusing of the problems people face in our local area of Newham, London. We are 3rd year TV Production students and this documentary is our final year project.

Our Project

Our project is all about providing an in depth look at the gang culture in East London. We are trying to create a visual that is gripping, informative and at the same time unique. We intend to do this through the use of our anecdotes, locations, interviewees and archive footage.

We will capture the point of views of our community and people who might inspire the youth of today as we feel they are more at risk and more affected when it comes to our topic. This is a film about our area and we feel we can provide a documentary of good quality with your help.

We have lined up people from our community willing to speak about their experiences and offer us and the public more knowledge into what's going on in the borough of Newham. Some of them have avoided gang life until now and others have been surrounded. This documentary will be from their perspective and there will be no narration.

Budget bREAKDOWN

Along with any support you can provide, we will also be pitching in ourselves to cover the costs of our production. With your help, we are hoping to cover the costs of the following:

We are looking to allocate between 50 and 70% of our budget on equipment:

  • Renting a Gimble for example is around £20-£30 however in an ideal world, we would like to purchase our own for future use which will cost around £800.

The remaining 30% of our budget will go towards:

  • Editing software: Your money will also allow us to download and use different editing software which will help make our project look more professional. The project will be edited on Adobe Premier Pro which means we would purchase the software for a month at a cost of around £30.
  • Food and travel: We would like to cover the costs of food and travel for our interviewees and ourselves should we need to.
  • Contingency: With projects like this you often find that you can go over budget so we want to have some additional funds in case things go wrong on a filming day or we have underestimated the cost(s) of something(s).

How to follow our project

Because of the potential danger in publicising what we are doing, we do not have a public domain or social media account where you can follow us but you can contact me through this crowdfunding page if you would like updates on our production.

If you can’t donate personally...

You can still help us by spreading the word about our project to your own network of contacts. Please share this project with anyone you think would support us – on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, by email, telephone, in person or on your blog.

By helping us promote the project, the greater chance we have of turning our bright idea into reality. Your support really matters.

Of course if you are also able to make a small personal donation and sponsor our project, we would be very grateful. Please be as genrous as you can...Thank you!
