A BRAND-NEW TV TALK-SHOW BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE STUDENTS OF MIDDLESEX UNIVERSITY.
WHAT OUR SHORT FILM IS ABOUT AND OUR MOTIVATIONS FOR MAKING IT
Mum’s the Word is a student led talk show. We are a close network of university friends and the idea for our talk show came to us after simply discussing our own mums. Given that all of our mums have a mutual interest in general debate, we came up with the idea of giving mums the mic, allowing them to voice their opinions on various topics relating to parenting, in a safe and comfortable atmosphere. This episodic TV talk-show will broadcast its first episode on March 15th 2019. The first topic for discussion will be breastfeeding.
WHY IS THIS SHOW IMPORTANT TO MAKE?
We are creating an informative show that allows mums to voice their opinions on subjects they believe matter. Currently, there are no shows featuring mums as guest panellists, aimed at mums -which is what we believe makes Mum’s the Word different.
By covering a number of topics centred around parenting and showcasing a diverse range of views and opinions, Mum’s the Word will seek to promote there are no right or wrong ways to parent your child - just different approaches to parenting.

PRESENTER AND PANELLISTS FOR OUR FIRST SHOW
We're excited to introduce our ridiculously talented presenter Hayley Evans. Hayley is a Middlesex favourite of ours and has been in many previous productions such as MDX Now, and Movember - both Middlesex productions. Take a look at her social media for further insight : https://www.instagram.com/evans_h/?hl=en
On the panel, we have Lauren Hampshire, a mother as well as a successful entrepreneur, who built her brand Milkytee co from the ground up from her garage. Milkytee sells stylish practical and comfortable clothes to breastfeed in, featuring hidden zips to allow access for breastfeeding or expressing, and now reaches a number of customers around the world. Check out the link to find out more about Milkytee co.: https://www.milkyteecompany.com
Also joining us on the panel is talented Pakistani YouTuber, Anum Zaman. Her videos offer insight into her day-to-day life as a mother and include numerous educational and interesting tips, based on her own experiences as a parent. Plan of action
We are shooting Mum's the Word at Middlesex University, in one of two Sony-designed TV studios (Studio A). This state-of-the-art studio features the latest technology - everything from new cameras to the brand-new lighting and sound desks. We are lucky enough to get to use this studio for free.
WhEre you come in
We plan on transforming the studio into the most comfortable living room you can imagine, in order to create a relaxed environment in which our mum panellists can be themselves. Achieving this though requires some budget! We also need to cover the costs of crew and cast transport to and from location.
In total we are looking to raise £1000.
WhAT WILL HITTING OUR GOAL ENABLE US TO DO?
Hitting our goal of £1000 will enable us to create a real life living room set. We'll be able to buy a trendy new sofa for our guests to sit on and to make the whole studio feel as homey as we can. If we hit our target we would also love to give our panellists a goody bag with lots of exciting gifts and memorabilia, as well as kitting all our crew with comfortable, branded T-shirts.
OUR BUDGET BREAKDOWN
We will be dedicating 50% of our budget to the props and set. The props will include things such as:
- Sofa - £250/300
- A coffee table, photo frames, table dressing, etc - £200
We will then be spending the remaining 50% of our budget on other necessities, such as:
- Branded crew t-shirts - £100/150
- The comedian - £100 (day rate)
- Travel to location filming - £200
- Graphic designer - £50
