KitShare - More Than Just A Shirt
We all know the transformative effects a piece of clothing can have. Think back to when you put on your first pair of football boots, or your first pair of heels. We've seen firsthand how a shirt can make a child feel like Lionel Messi, how it can encourage players to perform at their highest levels and inspire teams to victory.
Thousands of kit go unused or get thrown away in the UK every year. Working in partnership with charity KitAid, who have boxes full of this unused or unwanted kit, we want to ship some of these kits to kids in The Gambia. We want to see children who admire Cristiano Ronaldo FEEL like Cristiano Ronaldo and to do this, we need to raise £1,400.

Who We Are
Middlesex University's Well-Being Foundation is a social enterprise that was set up in 2007. Run almost entirely by Middlesex University students and alumni, we create partnerships with businesses, charities and enterprises of all kinds to promote a greater good.
Our primary mission is to engage students in valuable and shared experiences that not only empower them but the communities around them. Since our formation, we have enabled students to participate in a wide variety of community projects in numerous countries - from The Gambia, to China, Kenya, Tanzania, Morocco, Sweden and the USA.
Why we need the money
It's important that each kit is accounted for and for this reason each kit is personally delivered by one of our representatives (MDX students for the most part). After all, we'd hate to see the kits end up on market stalls for sale.
Why The Gambia?
Like us, Gambians are crazy about football. Spend time in a village and it won't be five minutes before the footballs come out. As an organisation we have many links with The Gambia, including strong relationships with schools, football teams and local businesses of all kinds. We know the landscape (having sent students to work on various Gambian community projects in the past three years) and it's a perfect opportunity to get loads of kit out to kids who both need and want it.
How we'll use funds raised
To enable us to ensure the kits arrive safely and are delivered into the correct hands, we need a minimum of £1,400 which breaks down as follows:
- Shipping and Transportation x2 (to carry two loads carrying 75kg each): £600
- Freight: £170
- Fuel: £70
- Handling: £20
- Security: £15
- Airway bill: £15
- Export customs clearance: £10
- Flight for the student who will go and meet the kit in The Gambia and take it to its end destination: £300
THE ABOVE ALLOWS US TO CARRY APPROXIMATELY 15-20 KITS.
- Rewards: £200 - We would also like to raise an additional £200 to be used towards the purchase of wood carvings for any generous sponsors who contribute £100 or more (10 are available) - the rest of our rewards bar the photos (see below) we have already and these are waiting to be sent to generous sponsors! If we do not get any donations above £100, this additional £200 will be used towards the transportation of further kits.
If we are lucky enough to raise funds above and beyond the minimum £1,400 needed, these will go towards shipping further kits out to The Gambia and other countries where possible. In time, we hope to develop a network of international partners so that delivery can become more frequent, widespread and efficient.
Rewards!
As an appreciation of your support we have loads of cool and interesting gifts to share, including signed photographs of the recipients of the kit, a variety of Gambian super foods, African jewellery and authentic African carvings and drums. Check out all the possible gifts on our Rewards page!
